Steve and Me

I am reading a book called Steve and Me by Terri Irwin, I have had the book some time now, but I haven't been able to look at it. Steve died tragically days before my two friends Matt and Chris, and it has just been far to painful to even pick the book up.

Anyhoo I have started reading the book, it is written with love and care, and yes I am crying as I read it but that is OK, I have learned that to cry is OK. I loved Steve Irwin his passion and love of wildlife was so amazing it had me gripped. I would be gripped by his programmes and his easy on camera style. He made me feel like he was actually talking to me and explaining everything to me.

The book is so tender it must have been a labour of love and such pain to write. My heart and prayer go out to Terri, Bindi and young Bob.

My Fat, Mad Teanage Diary

I am a very blessed person to know my friends and colleagues, one of my friends and former colleagues is a really talent lady called Rae Earl. Rae was a writer when I was a producer in Nottingham she left to be a presenter on Radio, first in Derby and now in Leicester with her husband Kev they do a joint breakfast show. Well my very talented friend Rae has written a book!!! and it is dues for release any day now (Tuesday 21st August) here is a review and an EXTRACT IN THE GUARDIAN from the book ... in the Guardian magazine (Saturday 4th August).

Synopsis

It's 1989 and Rae is a fat, boy-mad 17-year-old girl, living in Stamford, Lincolnshire with her mum and their deaf white cat in a council house with a mint off-green bath suite and a larder Rae can't keep away from. This is the hilarious and touching real-life diary she kept during that fateful year -with characters likeher evil friend Bethany, Bethany's besotted boyfriend, and the boys from the grammar school up the road (who have code names like Haddock and Battered Sausage). My Fat, Mad Teenage Diary" evokes a vanished time when Charles and Di are still together, the Berlin wall is up, Kylie is expected to disappear from the charts at any moment and it's GBP1 for a Snakebite and Black in the Vaults pub. My Fat, Mad Teenage Diary" will appeal to anyone who's lived through the 1980s. But it will also strike a chord with anyone who's ever been a confused, lonely teenager who clashes with their mother, takes themselves VERY seriously and has no idea how hilarious they are.

I have been blessed or not to win a copy from Rae and a bottle of Champers (which will be drunk on The Robber Button). The reason I say I may not be blessed to win is because I entered a competition with an awful photo of myself so its a sort of back handed compliment. I am just so proud of Rae for using her talent and writing this amazing book. Long evenings on my boat reading books written by my friends...just perfect.

Sex God - An amazing book

I have just finished reading Sex God by Rob Bell, this took a little time as I would read a bit then mull over what he was saying. Rob Bell is an amazing teacher and this book is just an eye opener. I don't want to say to much as it is a book that explains so much about Man, God and the sexuality of the world, that I would rather people read it for themselves.


I highly recommend this book for anyone who is a follower of Christ. .

Elvis explained

Whilst on my "vacation" (see I have gone all American) I have read Rob Bell's - Velvet Elvis repainting the Christian faith.

What an amazing book, it takes you back to the ABC af faith and helps you to start again. I have been so encouraged by this book. I have been really finding my understanding of my basic faith very stilted since September 10th.

Rob's book is so much like the Nooma videos, he writes as he speaks and he doesn't bombard you with data and verse he just explains in a caring and understanding way. Very much like Church Team leader. I feel I am ready to start to grow again as a follower of the Living God. Thanks to some very caring friends and a good book. If anyone would like to borrow this amazing book just ask, but be prepared to have your brain blown open....well it did for me with some basic theology explained very simply to a dafty.

A light read

A lighter posting today...phewwwww.

I am a Harry Potter fan, my Mum bought me a boxed set of the first 4 books for Christmas a few years ago when I was quite ill in bed for a long time, I started to read them and was hooked. I have read them all, some more than once, the first 4 are the Children's editions the next ones I have bought the adult editions, no it is not just the cover!!! on July 21st is the last book in the series, already spoilers are being written? why? I don't want spoilers, I want to be taken away to witches wizards, good over evil and Hogwarts and Harry, Ron and Hermione. I have been asked why did I read these evil books (someone from my Church actually said that) I said because I enjoy them, I know that they are just fiction and I am well aware of what lies down that road. I was once involved in some very dark things before I was saved. That isn't for today as I want to keep things light.

The books so far have been very well written and a totally absorbing read that has kept me enthralled from book 1. I enjoy fiction books, I also enjoy horror books, I have the latest James Herbert book to read on Holiday plus I have ordered Rob Bell's Velvet Elvis on Amazon for £4, so I will have a "Good Christian Book" as well.
